Tote Bags, Tote Bags & More Patchwork Tote Bags

It seems more and more patchwork tote bags catch my eye as I look at displays, browse blogs, or check out books.  Are they the quilting fad right now?  Or am I simply more aware.
I mentioned Emily’s tote in a previous post, Create a Patchwork Tote Bag.  Today I came across Chloe’s post, Eco-friendly Fabric Totebags, […]

Blog Action Day - What Can Quilters Do for Environmental Awareness?

Many people around the world are celebrating Blog Action Day, October 15 to create environmental awareness.
What is our environment?  What do we mean by environmental awareness?  How does this affect quilters and fabric artists?
I think quilters may have been some of the earliest environmentalists, although they would  never have thought of themselves that way.  (Besides […]

Quilting With Grandmother

In my previous post about Grandparents’ Day, I suggested one way to commemorate was recalling your quilting occasions with Grandmother…if you quilted with her.  So I should do this myself.
My maternal grandmother, Nanny, taught me the first rudiments about sewing and quilting when I was 6-8 years old.  Our first sewing sessions together consisted of […]

If You’re a Fabric Fanatic, You Can Make Quilted Tote Bags

A love of fabric, whether a particular type or simply fabric in general, can lead to an interesting business or sideline.  Most quilters, fabric artists, or accessory designers share a love of fabric and need to justify the urge constantly to add to their “stash.”
Laurie Maier, a collector of vintage fabrics, found that […]

Turtle Quilts Inspired by Turtle Blog

Jennifer, in a comment on my fun post about baby turtles, Something Fun for Quilters, mentioned that her best friend likes and collects turtles.  In the post, I’d suggested the turtles might inspire quilters.  So Jennifer came up with the idea of a baby blanket or quilt with turtles for her friend’s baby.
I agree with Jennifer.  […]

Male Quilters Awarded Prizes at Tri-Rivers Fair

It’s great to see the young men getting involved in quilting, too.  In an article on the KWCH -  Kansas News and Weather site, 2 Teen Males Claim Best of Show Ribbons in Quilting, we learn these teenagers at the Tri-Rivers Fair in Salina, KS.
Incidentally, when I was doing research for my book, The Magic […]

Prepare Now for Quilting Later

The upcoming issue of Quilting Arts Magazine mentions working on your quilting and fabric arts projects by doing your designing from the items around you.  If you don’t have the inspiration or inclination to make the actual projects this summer, you can sketch, take photos, gather objects, and receive inspiration that you’ll later use in […]

Discovering a Wooden Quilt Kimono

As I was browsing around various blogs containing quilting references, I discovered Jafabrit’s Art and her spectacular Wooden Quilt Kimono.  A coat of many colors!
I haven’t learned yet just how Jafabrit has constructed it.  However, I clicked on the photo and got a close up showing the stitching between the pieces.  This reminded me somewhat of crazy quilt construction.
