Jen at Domestik Goddess has an interesting Christmas wreath project, Holiday Decorations from Recycled Sweather. She also includes some tree decorations and stockings.
As I read about this and saw the pictures on Jen’s blog, I wondered, “Why not make these from recycled quilting or fabric art projects?”

The desire to save old quilts, whether those in our family, something found at a yard sale, or ones rescued from the dump, runs strong in quilters and anyone involved in our quilting heritage. Family quilts take on new meaning when we can salvage at least something made by grandmother, great grandmother, aunts, cousins and other relatives.

Do you find your quilting style changing as you become more involved in this art? For instance, I started out making traditional quilts using the patterns handed down throughout the years. More recently, I’ve been drawn to art quilting and smaller pieces. I haven’t made a bed quilt for years.

“Fabrics are a great source of inspiration,” mentions Lyn Briggs at her blog, Moore Patchwork & Quilting. (Scroll down to the section labeled “Inspiration.”)
This got me thinking of the ways quilters and fabric artists enjoy fabrics and create lovely works of art from them. Quilters can’t resist buying fabrics. They collect colorful stashes, and find many […]

Do you find family and friends wonder why you do all that quilting? Also, if you do this as an at-home business, do they think you don’t really work? Quilting […]

For this, she’s using taffeta as the fabric and her own hand-carved stamps. She gives you a mini tutorial at […]

When your quilting group gets together near Halloween, plan a “spooky” theme to create a memorable occasion. Perhaps you meet every other week, as my daughter’s fiber arts group does, to share their work and quilting ideas. You may meet to quilt one another’s quilts like the pioneer ladies did. Or maybe it’s luncheon […]

I discovered The Quilt of Life at Christian Crafter and have put it on my “must read” list. This book, a patchwork of devotional thoughts, was written by by Mary Tatum . Kristen, host at Christian Crafter, has quoted from this book, and Mary Tatum’s thoughts about quilting reflect the linking of the […]

Responses I’ve received to my post, Beading Retreats - Do Quilters Attend These? inspired me to set up a poll at Quilting & Patchwork.
Check it out and let me know your thoughts. Also, share in the comments, your experiences with using beads and/or buttons in your quilting and quilting art.
I’ve asked: Do you use beads and buttons […]

Instead of bundling the entire quilt around your sewing machine and trying to maneuver it as you sew, why not quilt in sections? In the current issue of the Quilted Paradise Newsletter, you’ll find some tips for doing just this, dividing your quilt into sections and quilting a piece at a time.
The article appropriately is, […]
