Sun Dyeing and Painting Fabric for Quilts

My daughter had an enjoyable day today painting and sun dyeing fabric for her quilting and fabric art.  Beth started with fabric she’d previously dyed.  Today she incorporated items from nature, ferns and leaves, for the designs on the fabrics below as she used sun dyeing and painting techniques.  She said she eventually may do some stamping […]

Quilting Helps Us Through Grief Stricken Times

Throughout the ages, needlework has sustained women (and sometimes men) as they work their way through grief…loss of a person close to them, a pet, a job, a home, or relocation to an area where they know no one.  (At a grief seminar, I learned there are many types of grief, other than that of […]

Quilting & Patchwork Tagged for 7 Facts Meme

Noreen at Hankering for Yarn tagged me for the 7 Random Facts Meme, in which I list seven facts about myself.  I also was tagged at my Home Biz Notes blog and have listed seven there.
So even though I’ve listed seven facts at Home Biz Notes, I’ll see what information I can provide here that may […]

Great Ideas for Quilters & Mixed Media Artists

One of my daughter’s favorite magazines for ideas and updates is Cloth Paper Scissors.  The current issue (July?August 2007) contains more than 50 pages of mixed media techniques.  There’s also an article, “A Year Captured in Fabric,” about fabric collage journaling.
If your quilting interests have taken you into the quilting and mixed media arts world, you’ll find […]

Quilters Make Fabric Postcards With Triangle Designs

Fabric postcards with a “triangle” theme provide  intriguing pieces of art in one of my daughter’s quilting groups.  This exchange involved triangles; the previous one had a theme of circles.
Beth has posted two of her cards at Meandering Threads.  I’ve included one here.

She fused the blue background strips to the card backing, then secured them in […]

Katelyn’s Paper Quilts

Recently I wrote a post, Converting Paper Quilts into Mixed Media Ones, inspired by Katelyn’s posting at Stamping Mad.  We both said we’d have to try these quilts, Katelyn doing paper ones and I creating some with fabric added.
Katelyn is way ahead of me and has some posted on her blog, Artful Monday - Paper […]

Using Buttons for Your Quilting

Buttons add color and interest as embellishments to your quilts.  They’re also interesting to collect and research.  I’ve seen quilt hangings almost completely covered with buttons and others with buttons as occasional accents.  Then there are others in all stages between.
I discovered some interesting quilts with buttons  at Button Mad.com (called to my attention by Chloe […]

Converting Paper Quilts into Mixed Media Ones

Katelyn at Stamping Mad, with her post, Paper Quilts, called my attention to Chrysti’s delightful collection of these items, on her Art by Chrysti blog .  Using leftover paper scraps, Chrysti created lovely postcard art.  Katelyn mentioned she is going to try some, and I hope she posts her results on her blog.
This has me wondering […]
