Why Do Certain Quilting Blogs Attract You?
Someone asked the question recently, “Why do certain blogs/bloggers stand out in your mind? Why do you return to their blogs?”
I started “pondering” and making a list.
- Sometimes it’s the topic, because you relate with it or can link to their blog more readily.
- Perhaps this blog offers free patterns, and that’s what you’re looking for
- This blog may offer updates on the latest techniques in the quilting world
- You’ll find tutorials here for really interesting quilting and fabric art projects
- The blogger offers insights into her quilting life
- This blogger travels a great deal and talks about interesting things she sees and does.
- It’s an easy-to-read blog.
- There are many photos and graphics.
Why do you visit specific blogs and keep returning?

This is an interesting question. I subscribe to a lot of blogs through a blog aggregator, but I realize I don’t actually ‘read’ many of them. I am not interested in the blogs that include a lot of personal information. I really only am interested in the more informational blogs. I like to see quilt pictures, read tutorials and how to’s, follow the quilter’s progress on quilt projects, etc.
On a side note, it seems to me that it’s not a good idea to lay your life out in words and pictures on a blog that absolutely anyone could read. I would never post pictures of my children, for instance. Online predators do exist, as do identity thieves. Much as we would like to think our blogs are only read by those wonderful folks in the quilting community, that is not reality.
