Quilting & Patchwork Participates in Arts & Crafts Carnival

I recently realized that Katelyn Thomas, at Stamping Mad, hosts a monthly Arts and Crafts Blog Carnival.  I immediately decided to participate since I enjoy carnivals.  Her January 2008 Carnival is up today.
I participated with my Family Legacies Extend to Arts Other Than Quilting.  It was fun writing this post and now seeing it in the [...]

The AAQI…Quilting to Benefit Alzheimer’s

QuiltingAndPatchwork.com
In Cross-country quilting for a cure, Cassandra A. Fortin at BaltimoreSun.com, tells about the quilts Mary Matton and other quilting guild members are making for Alzheimer’s awareness and research funding.
Matton and about 20 other members of the Annapolis Quilting Guild are participating in the Alzheimer’s Art Quilt Initiative, a grass-roots effort begun in January 2006 to increase [...]

For Interest to Quilters with Caregiving Tasks…Another All About Alzheimer’s Carnival

The second the All About Alzheimer’s Carnivals at Alzheimer’s Notes, where I’m a co-blogger with Liz Lewis, is up and running.  It’s a platform for you to write your thoughts and feelings about Alzheimer’s and caregiving if you’re involved in these areas.  You also might tie quiltmaking into it.
My daughter and I both were involved in [...]

Memory Quilts from Old Shirts

QuiltingAndPatchwork.com
I’ve heard of several quilters recently who have been recycling men’s shirts into quilts.
*These might be shirts from a family member and thus evoke memories.
*They could be shirts you’ve acquired at a second hand store and thought would make a colorful quilt.
*You might have some colorful shirts with Hawaiian prints that would be very striking [...]

Press Release Concerning the Gee’s Bend Quilts Controversy

 QuiltingAndPatchwork.com
The Gee’s Bend Quilters and their extraordinary quilts have made a big “splash” in the quilting world, with exhibits of the needlework in museums and galleries around the country.  The discovery of these quilts and quilters was an interesting story, too.
However, controversy arose when several quilters brought a lawsuit against the Arnetts who discovered [...]

Quilting and Cooking Often Go Hand-in-Hand

QuiltingAndPatchwork.com
Ever since the days of the early quilting bees, we seem to associate quilting and cooking as related arts.  The ladies who gathered to help one another on their quilting projects usually enjoyed eating together, too.  Then in the evening their families might join for a social evening.
When my daughter’s fabric arts group meets, they [...]

The Delight of a Quilting Group

Even though you belong to online quilting and fabric art groups, most quilters enjoy getting together in person with a local group periodically.  My daughter Beth finds these bi-weekly Friday gatherings a break in her schedule and a source of inspiration.
They share, they try different techniques, they enjoy refreshments, and they sometimes go on day [...]

Finding Quilting Inspiration in a Snow-Filled World

QuiltingAndPatchwork.com
Here is where my daughter and I find inspiration in our snow-filled New Hampshire world.  This is looking from the deck down the driveway after one of the many snow storms that we experience in winter.

This is one of Beth’s photos, but we both take them for memories, fabric art inspiration and for cards and [...]
