Sharing family memories and creating legacies seem to have been popular posts throughout 2007. Whenever I’ve written on this topic and shared stories about my quiltmaking, my mom’s, my daughter’s and granddaughter’s, I’ve received responses from quilters and fabric artists who wanted to share with me.
I hope I’ve encouraged you with your quiltmaking and […]

Many quilters probably have a dog in their life. We have Ginger. Although she’s actually my daughter and her family’s pet, she lives in our multi-generational home. Ginger loves to romp in the New Hampshire snow, but her paws get cold.
When I read this post at Jen’s Domestik Goddess, How to Teach a Dog to Wear Boots, I […]

As I look around at my friends and colleagues who are involved in arts and crafts other than quilting, I realize they’re leaving a leaving a legacy for their family and future generations, too.
What other crafts is your family noted for? Many arts and crafts are interrelated, as the mixed media ones are today.

Quilters continue to respond to my posts about quilting, family times, and tea time rituals that bring back memories. They also share stories of memories-in-progress as they gather with children for cooking, crafts, sewing and quilting, as I did with my grandmother and aunt. We also created memories in my own home which span the […]

It’s often not a “cut and dried” issue, as Chuck Smith explains in Quilting Copyright: Can I […]

When I reminisce about quilting with my grandmother at eight-years old, readers often write and share me their memories, too. If you’re teaching your own children to sew, you’re creating memories and a family heritage for them.
My tea time post, Tea Breaks for Quilters, has brought back memories for other quilters and women who […]

Quilters often enjoy tea breaks or a cup of tea while they’re working. I like to try different types of tea and remember how my grandmother, who taught me to make quilts when I was eight-years old, enjoyed her tea break every afternoon.
Nanny would have her cup of tea while my aunts often sipped their […]

My daughter was involved with my sewing and quilting projects from a young age. She would stand at my sewing machine when she was three years old and pin fabrics together while I sewed.
“Sew mine, Mommy,” she’d say. So I’d sew where she pinned and she was happy with something for her imaginary world.
I also […]
