Have You Participated in a Grab Bag Quilt Challenge?
My daughter participated in one of these…a grab bag quilt hanging challenge and now her creation is on tour! It even was displayed in a gallery in Costa Rica. Beth describes the procedure and shows photos of her hanging at her Meandering Threads blog, Grab Bag Challenge from 2006.
Here are the basics, as Beth describes them: For this challenge, we put together fabric and embellishments that would fit into a priority mail envelope and then we each received someone else’s “stuff.” With this “stuff,” we needed to make a quilt. We could add some of our own to it.
Then Beth descibes in detail what she did and shows photos of the process.
What about organizing this type of challenge among your quilting friends…or even one friend. Beth’s challenge participants were online. However, you can do it in person. If you find no one to participate, make up a grab bag of your own, from some of your “stuff.” Then restrict yourself to using only the items in that bag.
Also, your challenge could be any size…even fabric postcards.
I’d love to hear how you make out with such a challenge.
