Quilting and Patchwork

Beatrix Potter & Quilts

by Mary Emma Allen on July 9th, 2007

Are you a fan of Beatrix Potter, the author of Peter Rabbit and other stories?  Her stories and illustrations have fascinated me for years.

Now you’ll find Ms. Potter in the quilting world.  No, she hasn’t developed quilt patterns.  However, you’ll find a great variety of fabrics with characters from Ms. Potter’s stories printed on them at the Fat Quarter Shop

Some of these are fat quarters, jelly rolls, and book panels.  Others include one or more of her characters like Peter Rabbit and Jemima Goose.

I am extremely interested in Beatrice Potter material as I am a fan of her books. I’m so glad that I came across this link on the web.

In fact Beatrix’s grandmother and mother were a fine stitchers. Helen Potter left Beatrix her own wedding quilt which she treasured for years. It is on display at a museum and I discribe it in
my biography “Beatrix Potter: A LIfe in Nature” St. Martins, 2007

    Hello Sharon,
I’m pleased I could help you find Beatrix Potter material. Yes, wasn’t she an interesting person? And her books are priceless. You may be interested in the biography I’ve pictured above (simply click on it to find more info). I didn’t realize when I featured the cover illustration in my blog that the author would read my blog and leave a comment. (see above) A Potter family quilt is on display at a museum!

    Linda,
Thank you for visiting my blog and letting us know about the wedding quilt mentioned in your biography of Beatrix Potter and that it can be seen in a museum. I must see your book “in person” now….and read it.
