7 Ways to “Go Green” With Your Quilting & Fabric Art
“Going Green” seems to be the very popular slogan nowadays whether in personal or business life. It’s common to see lists of green movies, green singers, green concerts, green almost anything. I’m sure there will be more “green” events, people, and projects as “the” way to appeal to the general public.
In the current context, it doesn’t mean:
*you’re celebrating St. Patrick’s Day
*you’re a novice at whatever you’re doing
*you’re sick after eating something that disagreed with you
*you’re naive in your outlook on the world
“Going Green” has begun to refer to being “earth friendly” or environmentally conscious. However, you don’t have to be a radical, march in protests, wave banners, criticize your neighbors, or dress in paper bags.
You can become involved in quilting and fabric art projects that make a statement or save on fabrics. Quilters can do this is a friendly, artistic way.
Here are 7 ways to “Go Green” with your quilting and fabric art projects
*Quilters have traditionally recycled fabrics, from pioneering days to the present.
*Fabric and mixed media artists, all the time, create their works from bits and pieces of scraps from other projects or items headed for the recycling bin.
*Learn to make fabric from paper towels, used fabric softener sheets, and fibers as my daughter does.
*Embellish your projects with odds and ends like buttons cut from shirts, cancelled stamps, beads from broken necklaces, charms lost from bracelets, etc.
*Use earth colors when creating your fabric art to remind you of the beauty of the earth. These may vary from season to season.
*Design pictorial or panoramic art with fabric, paper, and embellishments of the scenes around you or places you’ve visited that bring to mind the wonder of earth and the environment.
*Locate your working area where you can look out a window or sliding door at natural wonders. If nothing more, look at the sky and cloud formations. These might inspire you in your quilting design or simply give you a feeling of peace in the natural world.
