Weddings are popular throughout the year, but June and the summer months (at least in the northern hemisphere) seen often selected. Jim’s and mine was a summer wedding, 47 years ago in July, in my family’s farmhouse home with wedding reception outside on the large lawn. (Fortunately it was a lovely weather day.)
Also, wedding quilts have been popular throughout the […]

Recently I wrote a post, Converting Paper Quilts into Mixed Media Ones, inspired by Katelyn’s posting at Stamping Mad. We both said we’d have to try these quilts, Katelyn doing paper ones and I creating some with fabric added.
Katelyn is way ahead of me and has some posted on her blog, Artful Monday - Paper […]

Buttons add color and interest as embellishments to your quilts. They’re also interesting to collect and research. I’ve seen quilt hangings almost completely covered with buttons and others with buttons as occasional accents. Then there are others in all stages between.
I discovered some interesting quilts with buttons at Button Mad.com (called to my attention by Chloe […]

Katelyn at Stamping Mad, with her post, Paper Quilts, called my attention to Chrysti’s delightful collection of these items, on her Art by Chrysti blog . Using leftover paper scraps, Chrysti created lovely postcard art. Katelyn mentioned she is going to try some, and I hope she posts her results on her blog.
This has me wondering […]

Redwork, a popular type of quilting in the mid to late 1800s, consisted of creating designs by embroidering with red floss on muslin background. Since pre-printed squares, as well as a skein of floss often could be purchased for one cent each, redwork also was referred to as “penny squares.”
This type of quiltmaking is gaining in popularity again. […]

You’ll notice a new look to Quilting and Patchwork. I love it! What about you?
The folks at b5media have been changing the templates, and sometimes the colors, to our blogs. I wasn’t sure what I’d find when mine was finished. But I’m very impressed with what the b5media designers have come up with for me.
Let […]

Many of the techniques used for scrapbooking and mixed media art have applications for fabric art and quilting. Often you can mix the paper and fabric materials. Other times you can utilize techniques found in scrapbooking and simply apply them to fabric and fiber art projects.
I discovered some ideas in a scrapbooking mystery novel, Motif […]

Today, June 14, is Flag Day in the United States. Congress and President Truman officially dedicated, in 1949, this day as a national day of recognition of our flag. I remember, as a child, flying a large flag from the porch of our farmhouse and having a special program in school.
Many quilting patterns incorporate the flag […]

I’m pleased Quilting and Patchwork is one of the 200 blogs included in the b5media group. It’s exciting being part of this blogging network.
Read about this accomplishment at b5media Cracks the 200-blog Mark.
“In less than two years, b5media has grown from an idea into one of the world’s leading blog networks. In fact, we’ve now officially cracked […]

Quilters and fabric artists use many types of embellishments for their art, especially for wall hangings, fabric boxes, “inchies”, postcards and other projects. These may be antique items, buttons, keys, charms, and items you’ve made.
I discovered delightful tatted butterflies at Noreen’s Hankering for Yarn blog that would be ideal for quilted and fabric art projects. You […]
