Scrapbooking & Mixed Media Akin to Fabric Art & Quilting
Many of the techniques used for scrapbooking and mixed media art have applications for fabric art and quilting. Often you can mix the paper and fabric materials. Other times you can utilize techniques found in scrapbooking and simply apply them to fabric and fiber art projects.
I discovered some ideas in a scrapbooking mystery novel, Motif for Murder by Laura Childs, that sparked my creative juices for fabric projects.
Laura Childs is one of my favorite mystery authors. She writes a series whose main character, Carmela, owns a scrapbooking shop in the French Quarter of New Orleans. Her other series involves tea shop owner, Theodosia, who lives in Charlston, SC.
Throughout her scrapbooking mysteries, Ms. Childs mentions scrapbooking, stamping, altered book, and mixed media art techniques. In the back of the books, along with recipes, you’ll find specific instructions for scrapbooking, stamping, and other crafts.
I’m anxious to use Ms. Child’s instructions for CD Books and try gluing fabric instead of scrapbooking paper to the rounds. Perhaps I’ll combine paper and fabric and decorate them with photos and other bits of memorabilia. (This seems a good way, too, to use up those useless or outdated CDs that seem to collect.)
