Flame Retardant Fabrics and Quilts
When I was making many baby quilts as a business, there was much in the news about flame retardant fabrics for baby and children’s sleepwear, which sometimes was translated to include bedding, too.
You’ll find a discussion about this topic of flame retardant fabric at the Quilted Paradise newsletter. (Scroll down the newsletter until you come to it.) Here Konstantin goes into the details and discusses which fabrics are more flammable than others.

Hi, I have a question about having to use flameretardant fabric for the neck and shoulder heat packs that are made to be put in the microwave and often are filled with rice, flax seed and herbs. Do I have to use flame retardant fabric for them? In a magazine it recommended fleece which I question. Thanks

Hi Pat,
Thanks for stopping by Quilting and Patchwork. Since I’ve never made these heat packs, I really don’t have the answer to your question. Perhaps you could write the editor of the magazine or author of the article. Or check out resources on the Internet. See if any are for sale at shops there and ask about them. Let me know what you find out. Some of my other readers may be interested.
