ATCs Spread Across the Quilting/Fiber Arts World

Chloe, at the Tangled Thread blog also creates ATCs [Artist Trading Cards], one of the popular projects in the quilting and fiber arts world. She recently posted three of the ATCs she has made for fun.
You might want to see them at Artist Trading Cards from My Studio.
I found very interesting the way Chloe used a […]

1000 ATCs in a New Book

“Mom, my ATC [Artist Trading Card] is in the new book, 1000 Artist Trading Cards,” my daughter exclaimed.
Sure enough, when we received a copy of the book by Art Quilting magazine and edited by Patricia Bolton, there was an ATC by Beth Mastin (along with other quilters and  fabric artists).  Beth’s card also appeared in the magazine […]

Try Beads for Your Easter Quilting Project

As I looked at Tammy’s  post and the colorful beads, Looking 4 Easter Jewelry,  at Jewelry & Beading, I wondered how many quilters and fabric artists were incorporating beads into their Easter projects.  I’ve discovered, as I’ve watched my daughter with her art work, that beads have begun to play a large roll as embellishments.
Now I’m on […]

The Fascination of Small Quilting Projects

Chloe at Tangled Thread talks about small projects you can carry in your purse to keep you busy when you’re away from home.  What about some small quilting/fabric art projects that you can tote along that don’t take up much space.          These can include glass cases, potholders, artist trading cards (ATCs), fabric postcards, coin/change purse, […]

Round Robin Books of Quilting

I mentioned previously that my daughter’s fiber art group decided to create fabric books for their Round Robin project this year.  From time to time Beth posts some of the work on her Meandering Threads blog.
After their second trade, these are some of the interesting creations the ladies are making.  They’ve each chosen a theme […]

Charity Quilt Day at Buckboard Quilts

To climax National Quilt Month (March), Judy Howard, of Buckboard Quilts, is designating March 29 as Charity Quilt Day.
“This is a campaign to raise awareness and funding for the sacrificial volunteer work of hundreds of thousands of quilters who provide quilts for sick babies, orphans, homeless people, nursing homes, cancer and Alzheimer’s patients, soldiers and […]

Flame Retardant Fabrics and Quilts

When I was making many baby quilts as a business, there was much in the news about flame retardant fabrics for baby and children’s sleepwear, which sometimes was translated to include bedding, too.
You’ll find a discussion about this topic of flame retardant fabric at the Quilted Paradise newsletter.  (Scroll down the newsletter until you come to […]

Do You Have a Quilting Muse?

Writers say they have “muses” that inspire them with their work.  Once at a writers’ workshop I attended, the teacher instructed us to describe our muse, either in words or a sketch.
Until then I didn’t even know I had a muse or was supposed to!  However, as I put pencil to paper, a whimsical lady […]

Fusing Fabric for Quilting

Over at b5media’s Tangled Thread, Chloe Findlay takes us through a seven step process to fuse fabric for quilting, called Machine Fusion Fabric.  It almost seems like magic as she combines fabrics, paints, and embellishments, along with machine quilting to produce a work of art.
This shows how, in this mixed media world, quiltmaking has taken […]

Fabric Postcards from Your Quilting Scraps

My daughter has finished some more fabric postcards for her swap and put a few up on her Meandering Threads blog.  To come up with ideas, she fell back upon her scraps and began putting them together.
As Beth says, she seems to use many leaves in her project.  Maybe she’ll become known as the “Leaf Lady” […]
