“I started out as a quiltmaker but now I’ve discovered mixed media,” so many quilters tell me. This has become a trend with so many quilters as they’ve begun to explore the world beyond fabric.
Mixed media consists of adding other materials, such as fiber, wood, metal, mica, beads, buttons and paper to fabric. These items […]

Did you read Peter Rabbit when you were a child or to your children? Do you enjoy the stories of Beatrix Potter? Her tales have been among favorite children’s stories for decades.
Now Beatrix Potter, with Peter Rabbit and his friends, are influencing quiltmakers. At the Snow River Quilts web site I discovered the delightful Garden […]

Nancy Kirk, a specialist in quilt restoration, quilt dating, and appraising, conducts workshops and teleseminars on these topics. Recently she held a free teleseminar and I was disappointed that I was away that evening.
So imagine my delight when I received a message that Nancy has, online, an audio recording of this teleseminar here……

Preparing taxes returns for a craft or quilt/fabric business occupies us this time of year. Some have already filed theirs, while others are wondering why they have to and what they need to do. Tammy Powley, who writes b5media’s Jewelry & Beading blog, has written at least two posts about getting the information ready for […]

This bookmaking at the school where I was substitute teaching was inspired by a visiting artist who shared many of her works and demonstrated her techniques.
These students made their books by […]

My daughter Beth and I had fun this morning searching through the scrap baskets at the local quilt shop. Beth needed some thread for her current fabric art project. So, of course, we browsed the shop and chatted with other quilters who were out on this bitter cold, near zero day in New Hampshire.
“Not even […]

How often do we say, “When I have more time, I’m going to do some quiltmaking, try some fabric art, or experiment with mixed media.” Then time fleets away and we find we don’t get to those exciting projects.
Somewhere along the line, we have to make this a priority and fit in a few minutes […]

February has been designated Heart Health Month and many activities are taking place to build awareness of this serious disease in women and men. Quilters often participate in raising funds and awareness by donating shop proceeds, participating in walks and runs, and making quilts with heart designs for themselves and for raffles.
I found an […]
