The World of Journal Quilting
Journal quilting ranks among one of the popular activities for quilters and fabric artists nowadays. This has been especially true after Karey Bresenhan developed the Journal Quilt Project .
Karey, director of the International Quilt Festival in Houston and Chicago , had made journal quilts herself (one a week for seven years) and decided to encourage other quilters to create these small pieces (8 x 10-inches) of quilting and fabric art about their life and inspiration.
[Correction: Even though Karey has left a comment below, I’d like to post this correction here…and my apologies to Jeanne Williamson.
Kind as the attribution is about the Journal Quilt project, I must ask that you correct a major error. While I did indeed start the Journal Quilt Project, I did NOT make all those Journal Quilts! You are giving me credit for what Jeanne Williamson, author of “The Uncommon Quilter,” did, and I respectfully ask that the error be corrected. It’s not fair to Jeanne, who deserves that credit for her remarkable accomplishment. But thanks
for telling folks about the JQP and encouraging them to start making Journal Quilts! (And thanks for the plug for my book…Creative Quilting.)

This evolved into the very interesting Journal Quilt Project beginning in 2002. The participants made a quilt page a month, 8 1/2 x 11-inches. This isn’t a contest, simply a project open to all quilters who are donors to Quilt Art online and sign up to “stretch and grow by trying new methods.”
The 2007 project will feature a larger quilt, 17 x 22-inches. You can find the requirements here.

Please reread the forward to the book. Jeanne Williamson started the journal quilt idea by making a quilt a week for 7 years. Karey B. created the Journal Quilt exhibit for International Quilt Festival.
