What Do You Do On a Quilting Day?

My daughter often paints fabric for inspiration.  This gives her new items to work with and new ideas to try.
The other day I came home to find pieces of colorful fabric drying in the living room, on the deck, and on the shower rod.  Beth had been painting fabric and dryer sheets before she hurried off […]

Christmas Fabric Postcards for the Troops

Many quilters are making fabric postcards to send to our servicemen and women overseas through Penny’ Postcard Posse (www.fabric-postcards.com/christmas.shtml ).  The quilters just contributed numerous postcards they sent to the troops for Thanksgiving.  Now they’re working on Christmas greetings.
Quilter Penny Halgren has been quilting for 24 years and this past year organized her “posse” for sending postcards […]

Ideas for Displaying Fabric Postcards

Fabric postcards fascinate quilters and non-quilters alike.  These little bits of fabric art can cheer the receiver and inspire the maker.  If you participate in exchanges, you may accumulate many of these through the mail or in personal get-togethers.
What do you do with them?  How do you display them?  It’s a shame to tuck them […]

Quilting Ideas for Thanksgiving

Whether you’re making a quilt or decorative items  for Thanksgiving with a harvest theme, there are many options available to you.  There are hangings, table runners and placemats, potholders, and quilts.

Items with a fall or autumn design often are incorporated into a Thanksgiving design. Also, the fall colors….orange, green, gold, bronze, wine, and brown…blend well with […]

Creating a Patchwork Booksigning Tablecloth

You don’t need to be a quilter nor write about quilting to design a patchwork type of table cloth for your booksignings or book events.  However, if you are a quilter/author, this is a great way to incorporate your art into your book signings or book sale table.
When I read mystery author, p. m. terrell’s […]

Collecting Old Fabrics for Quilts and Mixed Media Art

In addition to, or instead of old quilts, some quilters collect antique or vintage fabrics.  These can be very interesting to accumulate, whether you use them to make quilts, repair old quilts, or incorporate into fiber art.  I’ve had two readers write me about their fasconation in collecting old fabrics.  This got me thinking about the few […]

Do You Collect Old Quilts?

Old quilts have always fascinated me…those made by family members and others.  I don’t have a large collection, but enjoy the ones I’ve accumulated, whether given to me as gifts, hand-me-downs or purchased.
I only wish I had a place to display more of them.  Our multi-generational home (hubby, daughter, son-in-law, two grandchildren, dog and assorted […]

Begin Planning Your 2007 Quilt Show Visits

It’s not too early to jot down 2007 quilt and fiber arts shows on your calendar.  See if they fit in with your travels or days off from work.  My daughter has at least two she likes to visit each year, so tries to find their dates a year ahead…or at least by the time […]

Quilt Outings Revive Quilters

Quilting can be a solitary and even lonely activity since quilters often work alone in their studio or nook at home.  Visiting quilt shows with other quilters, or even by oneself, gives inspiration and new energy to their work.
Today was the day my daughter, Beth, her teenages daughter and friend visited the annual quilt show […]
