Quilting and Patchwork

Painted Fabric Photos on Meandering Threads Quilting Blog

by Mary Emma Allen on November 23rd, 2006

I mentioned in a previous post that my daughter, Beth, often paints and dyes fabric and described a day recently when I came home to find her fabric squares drying around the house and on the deck.  (Daughter, son-in-law and two grandchildren live with Jim and me in our multi-generational home.  So I’m often involved in her projects and get to see her experimentation first hand.)

Beth took photos of the various fabrics and posted them on her blog, Meandering Threads (http://meanderingthreads.blogspot.com ).  Now she’s seeking ways to incorporate them into her quilting and fiber art.

When Beth has a few hours, between work and family, she does painting and dying to add to her fabric stash.  Sometimes these fabrics will “call out” to her immediately and she starts designing with them.  Other fabrics will remain in her stash until she needs those of particular colors.

She also likes to try out new painting techniques.  Her local quilting group, Fiber Arts Friends, has asked her to teach a painting class at one of their meetings in January.  I’m encouraging her to develop an online painting class.
