Quilting and Patchwork

It’s Not Too Late for Christmas Quilting Projects

by Mary Emma Allen on November 21st, 2006

As long as you’re not planning something intricate, involved, and time consuming, you still have time to make gifts and decorations for Christmas.  As I glance around the various online stores, I find ideas that don’t take much time.

Look around for fabric printed with Christmas and holiday designs.  You can use these to make pillows, wall hangings, placemats and quick lap quilts that don’t have to be pieced.  Then you can sew around the designs by hand or by machine to add a quilted effect.

To add adornment to the wall hangings, sew on beads, buttons, and bangles and other embellishments.

Just wondering if you can answer a question for me. I am attempting to make a baby blanket for my niece. I bought a preprinted panel to hand stitch some of the design. Do I put the top, batting and back together then do the hand stitching through all three layers or just stitch the top layer, then put it together? If I put them together then stitch, how do I secure them…(I have a quilting frame) Thanks so much!

Thanks for your inquiry, Darby. I’ve written a post on my blog with information concerning this and the differnet types of basting. Much success with your quilt for your niece.
