Round Robin Quilting & Fabric Art
Previously I mentioned the Round Robin my daughter’s local group was conducting. Occasionally Beth posted a photo of a Round Robin fiber art piece she was working on. The artists are displaying the finished pieces as the Round Robin Collection at their exhibit at the Artistic Roots Art Center at Campton, NH. Beth also has photos of these for viewing at her blog, http://meanderingthreads.blogspot.com , along with other exhibit pieces.
For those unfamiliar with Round Robins, they consist of works passed around a group (either a local group where quilters meet regularly or an online group in which they mail the pieces to one another). Each artist adds something to the piece before sending it on.
The Fiber Explorers worked on this project this past spring. Each member began with a piece of fabric measuring 12 x 18-inches and established a theme for hers. Every two weeks the group met and passed each piece to another in the group to add their special touch, keeping within the theme. They also tried out techniques, fabrics, and embellishments with which they might have been unfamiliar.
The quilts then ended up with the original owner after 12 weeks. She was to complete the piece. As one member described them, “The results were a creative collaboration of the six women.”
Small journals were passed along with each project. The fiber artists chronicled what she did and why.
This collection drew much attention at the exhibit.
