Quilter’s Private Retreat - Attending a Quilt Show
My daughter experienced what she called her “own private retreat,” consisting of two days at the World Quilt & Textile Show. She attended a lecture, took a day-long quilting workshop, browsed through the displays and vendors’ booths, and enjoyed a relaxing overnight at the hotel.
This is the type of excursion only quilters understand, an opportunity to immerse themselves into the quilting world and the beauty of quilts and fabric art. They also can relax away from job and housework and think only about the quilting experience.
She thoroughly enjoyed the workshop she attended, Still Life with Bottles, taught by North Carolina quilter Linda Cantrell. What did this involve?, I wondered and was enchanted by the work-in-progress Beth brought home. She also had pictures of some of Linda’s work.
Her hanging consisted of appliquing bottle shapes onto a backing, using applique techniques Linda taught them. The colors Beth combined are very vivid and interesting. I’m anxious for her to finish it so we can see it complete.
(You can find some of Linda’s work at www.housefiber.com/linda.html . These aren’t her bottle pieces, but are fascinating in themselves. )
