Creating the Signature Quilt
Signature Quilts take on many forms and have evolved over the years. Sometimes they may be considered a type of friendship quilt. A number of quilting friends contribute blocks to this project. The quilt may be given as a gift for someone who is moving, for a person getting married or having an anniversary. Perhaps it’s a family project with each member designing and signing a block. Or it can be a community or church undertaking.
I’ve participated in a number of quilts of this type. They may not have beeen officially labeled a “signature quilt,” but each of us was asked to contribute our unique block.
Second grade school children were studying about authors and asked some of their favorite writers to illustrate and sign a block. It was fun to add my illustration of the Cookie Lady that appears in my children’s anthology, Tales of Adventure & Discovery (http://homepage.fcgnetworks.net/jetent/mea ).
Recently I’ve been involved in a project to make a quilt for a youngster who is ill. Each of us make up a block or several of our choosing on fabric designated by the coordinator.
In Keepsake Signature Quilts, Sally Saulmon gives instruction and ideas for a number of types of signatue quilts.
