Quilting and Patchwork

Displaying Your Quilts & Decorating Your Home

by Mary Emma Allen on July 31st, 2006

As we accumulate quilts, those we make, inherit, purchase, or receive as gifts, we wonder where and how to display them.  Depending on the number you have, you may need to store some and change your displays, as museums do.  If there aren’t too many, you can simply alter the arrangements in your home.

Make sure, when displaying, they aren’t going to receive direct sunlight.  That’s a problem my daughter and I have with our living room. It’s A-framed so much sunlight comes in through those many windows, even with blinds over them, because the blinds aren’t drawn all the time.

However, here are some suggestions.

*Use as a bed covering.

*Fold and place at the foot of the bed.

*Wrap around a roll and stand two or three quilts in a corner.

*Hang on a wall that doesn’t get direct sunlight that fades the quilt.

*Purchase or make a quilt rack for displaying quilts of various sizes.

*Drape over the arm or back of a chair.

*Hang from a beam or railing of a balcony.

*If it’s small, use as a decorative table runner, but not on a dining table.

How do you display your quilts?
