The Quilting Spirit - Bringing Quilters with Varied Interests Together
Another series of quilt blogs will revolve around quilting and life, lessons learned, inspirations gained...something I’ll call The Quilting Spirit.
I enjoy learning where quilters get their ideas, what they’ve learned from quilting and patchwork, how it’s connected them with other quilters. Is there a common thread that runs through quilters of the ages, whether it’s within a family, a community of friends and (nowadays, with the Internet), quilters around the world?
What is a Quilting Spirit? Your Quilting Spirit? If you have ideas on this rather nebulous and all encompassing topic, I’d enjoy hearing from you.
To me the Quilting Spirit could be a bond among quilters, that something that binds quilters of all ages, all eras, and countries. No matter what type of quilting or fabric art quilters are involved in, there is something they have in common.
One quilter I know belongs to a small group of fabric artists. They range in age from 40 to 70. They engage in different types of quilting and fabric art but gain inspiration from one another. They have different interests outside their quilting group; but this love of quilting brings them together for monthly meetings, quilt challenges, an annual quilt show, round robins, and tours to quilt shops.
It seems to me they’re brought together because of a common Quilting Spirit.
