As I read Jennifer Chiaverini’s latest Elm Creek Quilters novel, Circle of Quilters (http://elmcreek.net), I’m reminded of the great variety of quilters throughout quilting history and today. In this novel, five very different quilters apply for the two positions open at Elm Creek Quilts when Judy and Summer decide to venture into other careers.
Jennifer Chiaverinni […]

Decorate with red, white, and blue quilts, hangings, table cloths, runners and more for the Fourth of July celebrations. Also, check out your fabrics and start some red, white, and blue patriotic projects.
My daughter found, among her fabric stash, red-white-blue printed fabric with flags on it. “This will be great for a table runner for the […]

My daughter enjoys learning about quilts, quilters, and quilting techniques from Australia, or Down Under. She’s found a favorite magazine for keeping up on that country’s quilting and patchwork is Down Under Quilts.
By reading about quilters in other countries, you learn of similarities and differences, but find that the love of quilting builds a bond […]

Some quilters like to know more about those in their past who influenced their quilting of the present. As I research the story of my Trails End Quilters heritage http://trailsendquilters.blogspot.com ), I find I want to know more about those women who played a role in my past and who were quiltmakers, too.
I imagined that […]

During times of sadness quilters often find themselves turning to quilting. When my mom was in the nursing home, I’d bring my writing. A friend did her knitting when she sat with her mother. Sometimes I also sat and quilted and Mother, whenever she realized what I was doing (she was afflicted with Alzheimer’s), would talk […]

Have you heard about 3-D quilting projects and fabric sculptures? Some time ago, I’d learned about fabric bowls from information my daughter brought home from a quilting show. However, recently I learned about 3-D fabric sculptures and quilted art vases.
What a fascinating world quilting has become!
From Kaye Wood’s e-newsletter, I learned about Fran Morgan’s book, Quilted […]

Many quilters nowadays are venturing into the world of blogging. They’re developing blogs where they can post their projects, develop ideas, chat about their quilting life…ultimately sharing with other quilters.
They still belong to quilting groups, whether “in person” or online. But they have a place to share what they’re doing and gain exposure to for […]
