Quilting and Patchwork

Collecting Quilting Memorabilia

by Mary Emma Allen on March 29th, 2006

Accumulating vintage quiltmaking and sewing gadgets often evolves into a fascinating hobby for quilters.  Some of these remind us of items we might have used or a family member did.  Others attract our attention simply because they’re interesting and connected with our art.

I have a collection of thimbles and add to this whenever I can.  My daughter and I also remain on the lookout for other sewing items, whether they’re used exclusively in quiltmaking and fabric art or simply connected with sewing of past and present.

Sometimes these sewing/quilting items have been handed down through the generations.  Others you’ll find at yard sales, estate sales, at antique shops and online.

I also enjoy browsing through books about sewing/quilting gadgets and memorabilia for ideas of those I might add to my collection.

Do you have special memorabilia you enjoy collecting?
