Quilting and Patchwork

Fascinating Star Patterns for Quilts

by Mary Emma Allen on March 14th, 2006

Star patterns for quilts ranked among the favorite designs with quilters of long ago and still today.  Some of these, like the Lone Star, were very complicated designs.  Others, like some I’ve made, consisted of eight large pieces.

It’s amazing, when one realizes how much work the colonial homemakers had to do, that they had time to create quilts using such intricate designs. Considering, too, that everything was sewn by hand and hand quilted, this was an even greater accomplishment for the pioneer homemaker.

Other star designs include:  Texas Star, Missouri Star, Odd Star, Ozark Star, Persia Star, Rolling Star, Prairie Star, Slashed Star, Twinkling Stars, Double Star, Flying Star, and Blazing Star.
