Quilting and Patchwork

Creating Fabric Art Bags

by Mary Emma Allen on March 10th, 2006

Among the various items falling under the category of quilting and fabric art you’ll discover purses or bags. Made of fabric embellished in a variety of ways and frequently quilted, these artistic endeavors are fascinating and eye-catching.

In the Quilting Arts magazine for Spring 2006, you’ll see fabric bags of many types. Quite a few use beading and trims for adornment. Readers of the magazine sent in their ideas and completed purses for this project. This is only one aspect of how quilting and patchwork have evolved into the larger field or fabric and quilting art.

Start brainstorming with ideas and creations of your own. Many of the quilting magazines also look for ideas from readers.
