Quilting and Patchwork

Incorporating Scrapbooking Techniques With Quilting

by Mary Emma Allen on February 28th, 2006

The arts of quiltmaking, fabric art, collage and scrapbooking have become intermingled these days so that one often flows into another.  Originally quiltmakers, my daughter and I now find ourselves intrigued by scrapbooking and the interrelation of fabric arts.

*Quilters still make the traditional patterns, but some embellish with scrapbooking techniques and items, especially when these works will become hangings.

*Fabric art has evolved for traditional quilters, too, who find themselves trying some of the newer techniques, often possible now because of unique materials.

*Collages of fabric and paper combinations become popular.

*Creating fabric books utilizing many of the ideas that scrapbookers do fascinate us.

The list of projects go on and let you know that the art of quiltmaking and patchwork has many facets.
