Quilting and Patchwork

Fabric Postcard Inquiry

by Mary Emma Allen on February 23rd, 2006

A reader asked me where she could find information on making fabric or textile postcards so she can take this project with her while traveling.  Yes, these are handy to carry along when you’re on the go.You can start out with the basic materials, then pick up additional items as you need them, if you don’t have everything at home.  This project is easy to put in a plastic bag and slip it into a large purse, computer bag, tote bag, or suitcase.

I often work on fabric postcards in a car, on a plane or in airports.  This leads to conversations and often results in new friends.

Although quilters usually stitch a major portion of the fabric postcard by machine, they can do most by hand when traveling.  I enjoy having a hand project and find it relaxing.
