Many Online Resources for Quilters

As you explore the Internet, you’ll find many resources for quilters. There seems to be something for everyone’s interests. Even the print publications have an online presence.
I discovered, when visiting the site for Quilter’s World, a link to register for free newsletters sent to your e-mail box. As a result, I’m enjoying […]

Mini Quilting & Patchwork Projects

I like mini projects I can carry with me as I travel, ones that fit into a sandwich size plastic bag or similar size freezer bag. I can carry this in my suitcase or the side pocket of my computer bag.
The popular fabric postcard projects fit into one of these bags nicely. I […]

Hidden in Plain View - A Favorite Quilt Book

Each of us has books about quilting and patchwork that become favorites. They may be books containing information on quiltmaking itself with patterns and supply lists. Or they may be books about the history of quiltmaking and quilters. Others are novels in which quilts, quilters, and quiltmaking play a significant role.

Quilting With Grandma (a poem)

Quilting with Grandma
Holds many memories…
Of sitting beside her woodstove
Cutting and sewing pieces of
Multi-colored hues.
Chatting with Grandma
As we did our handiwork…
Resulted in tales
About friends and family,
Forming generational bonds.
Tying the quilt with Grandma,
Auntie and Miz Susie
Around the dining table…
What pleasure for a child
At a grown-ups’gathering.
Finding Grandma’s quilt,
After half a century…
Though worn and torn
It brings back many images
Of […]

Many of the quilt fabric and supply shops are running sales through the end of 2005. This often is a good time to shop and take advantage of reduced prices. Check out your favorite online shopping stores, as well as the stores in the mall. Some of these fabric and supply stores […]

Fabric Postcard Gifts

My daughter created lovely gifts to give this Christmas, which you could consider when you need birthday, thank-you, and Christmas gifts in the future. She has been experimenting with fabric postcards for several months and doing lovely work.
Some of her colleagues send these through the mail as Christmas cards. They also send them […]

Christmas Cards from Quilters

My daughter has been receiving lovely, innovative Christmas cards from quilting friends. Some of these take the form of fabric postcards, utilizing collage and quilting techniques.
Another was a Christmas card, mailed in an envelope, which combined scrapbooking and fabric art. Some of the creative ideas these quilters use are very interesting and attractive.
You […]

Show & Tell Quilts

In Kaye Wood’s Newsletter, that I receive via e-mail, there was a notice about Show & Tell quilts. I visited the web site, www.kayewood.com/show_n_tell.html , to learn more about the project, view some of the quilts, and read the stories behind them.
The latest quilt, made by Hilda L., also appears in the online newsletter. […]

Online Clubs & Classes

Numerous sites offer clubs and classes for quilters. Sometimes these clubs consist of a block-of-the-month kit or pattern or a round robin. There may be classes that online quilters can take, too.
At www.snowyriverquilts.com, you’ll find a Thimbleberries Club for 2006. If you visit the site, you’ll discover more information about the […]

Corduroy Quilts

I once received a request for a very warm quilt for the customer to use in a bedroom that wasn’t well heated. He wanted it made of something more than cotton fabrics, yet washable.
So I went through my fabric stash and found a number of pieces of corduroy, both scraps and yardage, in various […]
