Quilting and Patchwork

The Traveling Quilt Trunk

by Mary Emma Allen on November 21st, 2005

Some quilters utilize the idea of a traveling trunk, with quilts or patchwork clothing to display. This way you can book yourself for quilt talks, workshops, and exhibits and have your display ready to travel.

I first heard of this idea from a lady who designed and made clothing from quilted and appliquéd fabrics. She sold the fabrics and would customize clothing for you. She also put on a display and talk for quilt groups and quilt shows. She carried her items in an antique trunk, which became her trademark.

At a quilt show, where I was a judge and workshop teacher, she gave a program after lunch, talking about interesting clothing quilters could make. Some of the members of the guild sponsoring the show modeled her clothing.

This was a fun time…entertaining and educational.
