Quilting and Patchwork

Quilting for Christmas

by Mary Emma Allen on November 20th, 2005

As the holiday season approaches, quilters begin thinking of ways to decorate their homes with Christmas theme patchwork and appliqué. Depending on the holiday you celebrate, your color schemes may reflect those traditional to that event.

Red and green, silver and gold usually find they way into Christmas items. These may include placemats, potholders, table cloths, table runners, napkins, wall hangings and decorations for the tree.

If you look through fabrics online or at mall stores, you’ll find, this time of year, those with holiday prints. If you don’t want to purchase seasonal fabrics, or find them beyond your budget, simply look through your fabric stash for some in holiday colors.

Add to the fabrics…trims, beads, and charms and you’ll have lovely decorative items. Those with the beads and charms may not be condusive to potholders, but will give added attractiveness to hangings and tree trims.

My daughter often makes small hangings with winter and Christmas scenes that she hangs around the room for holiday décor.

What are you creating for the holidays?
