Quilters Make Quilts for Hurricane Victims
Just as quilters have during other castastrophes, they are bonding together to make and send quilts and blankets to centers, particularly at the Astrodome in Houston, TX, where flood refugees are gathered after Hurricane Katrina. This project, organized by Karey Patterson Bresenhan (Director of the International Quilt Festival Houston & Chicago) with the Red Cross, is called Quilters Comfort America, a cooperative project to comfort victims of Hurricane Katrina.
Perhaps you have extra fabric you havent found a use for yet. Now may be the time to make a babys quilt, a lap quilt for an elderly person, or a twin bed size quilt. (Theyd prefer the quilts no smaller than babys quilt size.)
If you dont have quilts made ahead, it doesnt take long to stitch up a crib quilt or blanket. Theyre also asking for donations of sheets and blankets.
Check out this site for information about quilt donations, preferred sizes, and where to send them: www.quilts.com/hurricane.htm
