Quilting and Patchwork

Quilters’ Recipe Books

by Mary Emma Allen on July 18th, 2005

Quilters in today’s world are interested in foods for quilting get togethers and to prepare for their family as their pioneer ancestors were. They even publish group cookbooks with recipes many contributed.

Some of these cookbooks are compiled as fund raisers to help quilting groups with their projects and quilt shows. Some consist of collections published simply to share with others.

One cookbook I’ve particularly enjoyed is “Stitch ‘n Stir,” produced as a fund raiser by The Quilters’ Guild of Dallas (TX). This contains both simple and fancy recipes my family and I’ve prepared.

My daughter found “Favorite Recipes from Quilters,” compiled by Louise Stoltzfus, a nice cookbook to include in her collection. Quilters from around the country shared their recipes and food ideas.

A quilting cookbook I envision as one of my many future writing projects will consist of my family recipes intermingled with tidbits of quilting history and lore. Among the recipes will be those my aunt contributed to my family food history and childhood memories. The book will include additional recipes from the Trails End Quilters in my family.
