Quilts for Joyful Times
Quilts for special occasions contribute to family memories. Some of these consist of fabrics that remind us of memorable events. Others are quilts created as a gift for a particular person or occasion.
Quilters often make quilts for new babies. This is something grandmothers enjoy doing, both for the giving and the hope that this gift will be enjoyed.
I made quilts for both grandchildren and had them ready for my daughter to use when the infants arrived. They were of Rail Fence design, one Id found relatively quick to create for various quilting projects.
Karas was basically aqua and tan. Alexs was made of green and yellow fabrics. Both small quilts consisted of a mixture of prints and solids.
Alexs was finished a few days before he was born. I have fond memories of four-year Kara and me sitting on the living room floor while I tied the quilt. Kara chattered as we worked and handed me thread and scissors.
Our work of love was well received because Alex treasured blankie for years. It became so well worn that my daughter has appliquéd all sorts of patches on it, making it a quilt with completely different top design.
You never know when you give a patchwork gift what memories it may evoke or create.Quilts, Ive discovered, are works of art and love, often greatly treasured by the recipient.
What joyful memories are you making with your quilts?
