Quilting and Patchwork

Why Do We Quilt?

by Mary Emma Allen on June 20th, 2005

Why has quilting had such great appeal over the ages? Why do I keep coming back to this heritage when I have so much else to do? Why does my daughter find such pleasure in this art?

Quilting is a captivating hobby that can become a profession.

It’s a great way to relax when life is stressful.

These projects can tie you with your family heritage.

Patchwork and quilting are fun to do with your children.

This is a way to expand your horizons, test your talents, and discover abilities you never knew you had.

Quilting creates a bond with others having similar interests, and you find a community of people who inspire one another.

Quilting and patchwork are so diverse that there’s something for everyone.

Find your niche in the quilting community and you’ll discover a world of wonderment.

I enjoyed reading about why we quilt! I am an artist and an elementary school art teacher. I am writing a lesson on pattern quilts that the students will create with paper. In doing research about quilts I came across your website and it gave me some great information to use in my discussion with the students about quilting, culture, etc.
    Thanks!
